The 2nd Underground Railroad
It's important to note that there were many Indigenous Afro Tejanos that experienced the Portugese, Spanish &/or the English system of Slavery & Subjugation, while other Afro Texans, only experienced the Anglo system of bondage. This was of course determined by the length of time that these respective individuals inhabited Texas and lands beyond our borders, from the time of the Spanish Conquest & / or from the trafficking at a later time by primarily the English.
Each Afro indigenous's family story is unique in it's particular origins however, all having equally endured either or both Colonial Missionization, Antebellum Slavery, Civil War, Emancipation, Indentured Servitude, Disenfrancisment, Jim Crow South, Klu Klux Klan & Lynchings, Segregation, Medical Expermintation, Civil Rights Abuses, .Modern-Day Racism via, Unequal Justice & Police Brutallity among other. Moreover, all possessing in common having been shackled & deprived of freedom, beat, trafficked from thier original homelands to unknown & faraway lands, enslaved, raped, stripped of our original religion, language & culture.
Deprived of education & even the truth of their imposed European religions so as to have us believe that we were beast-like & consequently inferior & deserving of our lot. Entire families torn apart & separated; individuals traded or sold as chattel, and even killed.
Made to feel inferior; broken, spiritually, physically & psychologically. However, the powers that be having not known that they could & would never extinguish the very essence of our tenacious resilience, our solid belief, faith , and never-ending hope of overcoming everything & anything triumphantly!
